More than 25,000 attendees celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day at the AIA SWADES 2026 event in Downtown San Jose, featuring a vibrant parade and cultural festivities.
On August 15, over 25,000 people gathered in Downtown San Jose to celebrate AIA SWADES 2026, marking the 80th Independence Day of India. The event, organized by the Association of Indo Americans (AIA), showcased a historic India Day Parade, which featured more than 80 floats and marching groups, along with participation from over 50 Indian-American organizations.
The day-long celebration brought together families, cultural groups, business leaders, elected officials, and Indian-American community members from across the Bay Area to honor India’s rich heritage and the enduring ties between India and the United States.
The centerpiece of the gathering was the Historic San Jose India Day Parade, which transformed the streets of Downtown San Jose into a vibrant display of regional Indian cultures and community pride. Participants enjoyed a procession that included an 80-foot India and USA Flag Walk, the Tiranga Walk, live music, and various cultural performances.
