Air India has unveiled its signature Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco International Airport, enhancing the travel experience for its premium passengers.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Air India has officially opened its Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco International Airport, a significant addition for travelers seeking comfort and luxury before their flights.

Located near Gate A1 in the airport’s International Terminal, the 3,300-square-foot lounge is set to welcome guests starting May 23. Designed to accommodate 80 passengers, the facility is accessible to Air India’s First and Business Class travelers, as well as Platinum and Gold members of the airline’s Maharaja Club loyalty program.

A dedicated section within the lounge has been created specifically for First Class passengers, providing an exclusive and private area to relax prior to departure.

“The opening of the Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco builds on the recent launch of our flagship lounge at Delhi, marking the beginning of a new generation of signature lounges for Air India,” said Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, in a statement.

Wilson emphasized the importance of the North American market for the airline and noted that Air India is committed to delivering a consistent travel experience across its network, blending modern amenities with traditional Indian hospitality.

The San Francisco lounge is the second in a series of signature Maharaja lounges being developed by the airline, following the design approach of its recently inaugurated flagship lounge in Delhi.

Designed by the hospitality firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, the lounge features contemporary interiors infused with Indian-inspired design elements. The color palette incorporates champagne, ivory, and deep red tones, reflecting Air India’s branding. Additionally, “Vista” design motifs are integrated into the walls, furniture, and furnishings throughout the space.

The lounge boasts multiple seating and hospitality areas, including the Aviator’s Bar, a dining section, social seating spaces, and the private zone for First Class travelers.

The Aviator’s Bar offers an array of wines, whiskies, and signature cocktails, including the unique “Maharaja Manhattan,” which features flavors inspired by black pepper.

Guests can enjoy a diverse selection of Indian and international cuisine in the dining area, which includes live cooking stations, hot and cold buffet counters, and beverage stations.

Both the business and private seating areas provide views of the airport tarmac, allowing guests to watch arriving and departing aircraft.

Artworks reflecting regional heritage adorn the lounge, along with select installations created from repurposed aircraft components, adding a unique touch to the overall ambiance.

Air India, which returned to Tata Group ownership in 2022 after decades under government control, is currently undergoing a multi-year transformation program. This initiative includes placing orders for new aircraft, retrofitting older planes, and enhancing airport and onboard services.

The Air India Group, which encompasses both Air India and Air India Express, operates over 300 aircraft and serves a wide range of domestic and international destinations across five continents.
