WASHINGTON, August 8, 2026 – Vice President JD Vance engaged in a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, focusing on strategies to deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership across various key sectors.
During the call, Modi extended his congratulations to Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance on the recent birth of their son, offering warm wishes to the entire family. In a post on social media platform X, Modi shared, “Received a phone call from US Vice President JD Vance. While the bill does not automatically impose the maximum tariff, the actual rate will be determined by the US Trade Representative, with the president holding the authority to waive these measures.
