The American Cancer Society supports these recommendations, suggesting that average-risk men begin discussions at age 50, while Black men and certain individuals with a family history should start at age 45. For those at even higher risk, the conversation should begin at age 40.
Biden’s office announced in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones. This diagnosis followed an increase in urinary symptoms that led doctors to discover a prostate nodule. At the time, his office reported that the cancer had a Gleason score of 9, Grade Group 5, but was hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective management.
After completing his radiation therapy last fall, Biden has continued to focus on his health and personal projects.
