A plot directed by Iran to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico has been thwarted, according to officials.

Officials announced on Friday that a plot orchestrated by a terrorist network linked to Iran aimed at attacking Israel’s ambassador in Mexico has been successfully neutralized.

The alleged assassination attempt, reportedly orchestrated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was said to have begun late last year. However, U.S. officials confirmed that the threat was contained and no longer poses a risk.

In a statement to Fox News, Israel’s foreign ministry expressed gratitude towards the security and law enforcement agencies in Mexico for their role in thwarting the plot. “We thank the security and law enforcement services in Mexico for thwarting a terrorist network directed by Iran that sought to attack Israel’s ambassador in Mexico,” the ministry stated.

The Israeli security and intelligence community emphasized its commitment to collaborating with global security agencies to counter threats posed by Iran and its proxies against Israeli and Jewish targets worldwide.

A U.S. official highlighted the significance of the thwarted plot, noting, “This is just the latest in a long history of Iran’s global lethal targeting of diplomats, journalists, dissidents, and anyone who disagrees with them.” The official added that this ongoing threat should concern every nation where Iran maintains a presence.

Details surrounding the plot remain sparse. However, security services in both Britain and Sweden had previously warned that Iran was increasingly relying on criminal proxies to execute attacks. Reports indicate that Britain has disrupted approximately 20 Iranian-linked plots since 2022.

As the situation develops, the international community continues to monitor Iran’s activities closely, particularly in light of its history of targeting individuals who oppose its regime.
