Dr. M. Anand Prakash has officially assumed the role of Consul General of India in Chicago, succeeding Ambassador Somnath Ghosh, who is now India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia.
CHICAGO, IL – Dr. M. Anand Prakash, a seasoned diplomat, officially took charge as the Consul General of India in Chicago on September 3. He succeeds Ambassador Somnath Ghosh, who has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Malaysia.
Dr. Prakash, a 2005-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), brings with him two decades of extensive diplomatic experience, which will serve him well in representing India across the U.S. Midwest.
Before his appointment in Chicago, Dr. Prakash led the Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran Division at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. His distinguished career at headquarters also includes significant assignments within the Eurasia Division, as well as the West Asia and North Africa Division, where he focused on issues related to Israel, Palestine, Egypt, and Syria. Additionally, he worked with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Division.
Throughout his twenty years in foreign service, Dr. Prakash has represented India in various diplomatic missions worldwide, with overseas postings in cities such as Beijing, Moscow, Kyiv, and Jakarta.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Prakash is a polyglot, fluent in English, Tamil, and Hindi, and possesses a working knowledge of Russian. Outside of his official duties, he enjoys traveling and listening to music.
Dr. Prakash arrives in Chicago with his family, including his wife, Dr. Srivardhini, and their two children, as they embark on this new chapter in their lives.
