Venkatesh Murthy, a distinguished Indian American cardiologist and health innovation researcher at the University of Michigan Health, has been appointed to a national task force focused on directing preventive health efforts across the country.
Murthy, who holds the title of Melvyn Rubenfire Professor of Preventive Cardiology, has officially joined the 16-member U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). His extensive expertise in cardiovascular imaging and quantitative methods will contribute significantly to federal screening initiatives.
Federal health officials announced Murthy’s appointment as one of eight new members tasked with evaluating clinical evidence to enhance health outcomes nationwide. The independent panel is known for issuing widely trusted recommendations that influence clinical practices across the United States.

At Michigan Medicine, Murthy also holds faculty appointments in the U-M Medical School Departments of Internal Medicine and Radiology. In addition to his clinical responsibilities at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, Murthy is an active member of the Frankel Institute for Heart and Brain Health and serves on the Management Committee for the Michigan Institute for Data & AI in Society. His academic background includes rigorous scientific training that combines complex molecular research with clinical cardiology.
