Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is set to enhance its facilities for Muslim travelers by installing dedicated Islamic foot-washing stations in the bathrooms of Terminal D. This initiative aims to provide a convenient space for ritual ablution, known as wudu, which is performed by Muslims before prayer.
The project was officially registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on July 31 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. With an estimated cost of approximately $300,000, the project will be privately funded and will include separate ablution stations for men and women within the existing restroom facilities.
Wudu stations are designed to offer Muslim travelers a cleaner and safer environment for washing their feet, a crucial aspect of the Islamic ritual purification process. By providing dedicated facilities, DFW aims to address practical concerns associated with performing ablution in conventional airport restrooms, such as preventing water from splashing onto bathroom floors and reducing the need for travelers to use sinks for this purpose.
