Chinmaya Mission has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest online simultaneous chanting event, with 8,277 participants reciting Chapter 15 of the Bhagavad Gita from around the globe.
MUMBAI – Chinmaya Mission has officially entered the Guinness World Records for organizing the largest online simultaneous chanting event, achieving a remarkable participation of 8,277 verified individuals from various countries. This event took place on May 9, 2026, as part of the global initiative ‘Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam,’ where participants recited Chapter 15 of the Bhagavad Gita together.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 5,188 participants, setting a new benchmark for the most people chanting online simultaneously.
The record-setting event was part of the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav, a year-long celebration marking 75 years of the Chinmaya Movement, which was founded by Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda. The initiative aimed to unite devotees and followers across continents through the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, transforming collective chanting into a powerful expression of spiritual unity and reflection.
According to Chinmaya Mission, the event garnered over 80,000 registrations from 77 countries, with more than 32,000 participants engaging in live online chanting sessions. Following the completion of the Guinness World Records verification process, 8,277 participants were confirmed to have met the necessary requirements for the record.
Nearly 1,000 trained volunteers played a crucial role in supporting the initiative by coordinating chanting sessions and managing the documentation required for official verification. Chinmaya Mission also expressed gratitude to Geeta Pariwar, SGS Avadhoota Datta Peetham, and Webex for their contributions to the event.
Swami Swaroopananda, the Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, remarked, “This recognition is not merely a celebration of a world record; it is a celebration of the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita reaching hearts across continents.”
He added, “Every individual who participated became part of a collective spiritual offering that transcended geography, language, and culture. The true achievement lies not in the numbers, but in the shared commitment to living the values of the Gita and carrying forward Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s vision of making Vedanta a living force in society.”
The organizers of the event noted that this record reflects Chinmaya Mission’s ongoing dedication to spiritual education, cultural preservation, value-based learning, and humanitarian service. As the organization celebrates 75 years of its journey, this recognition is viewed as another significant milestone in its global outreach and promotion of Vedantic teachings, according to Chinmaya Mission.
