Nearly two years after Liam Payne’s death, court documents reveal that his nine-year-old son, Bear, will inherit the late singer’s £21 million estate.
Liam Payne passed away on October 16, 2024, after a tragic fall from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old.
In the wake of his death, court documents have clarified the distribution of the former One Direction star’s estate, estimated at £21 million. According to reports from The Sun, Bear Payne, Liam’s nine-year-old son, will be the sole beneficiary of his father’s wealth.
The High Court has approved new probate arrangements for Liam’s estate, allowing portions of the inheritance to be accessed for Bear’s immediate benefit. Since Liam died intestate, meaning without a will, the estate is being managed under intestacy laws.
Bear, whom Liam shared with singer Cheryl Tweedy, has been designated the sole heir. Although he is still a minor, most of the inheritance will be held in a trust until he turns 18. However, the latest Letters of Administration permit the use of funds from the estate for Bear’s welfare and upbringing as necessary.
The estate reportedly includes Liam’s five-bedroom home located in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. He purchased the property in 2021 for £3.25 million to be closer to Bear following his split from Cheryl.
Following Liam’s death, Cheryl and music industry lawyer Richard Bray were appointed as administrators of the estate. Initially, their role was limited to collecting and protecting Liam’s assets. With the recent court approval, they have now been granted the responsibility to manage the estate in a manner that benefits Bear while preserving the remaining inheritance until he reaches adulthood.
In the midst of this situation, Kate Cassidy, who was in a relationship with Liam at the time of his death, has chosen not to make a claim on his estate. Sources close to her have indicated that she does not intend to seek any portion of Liam’s fortune.
Kate has previously addressed speculation regarding her relationship with Liam, firmly denying any financial dependency on him. “I never [asked him for money]. Yeah, it’s upsetting but it’s just about having thick skin and I’m never going to let anybody tell me how my relationship was with Liam. The only two people that really know how strong a relationship was are me and Liam,” she stated in an interview with The Sun.
The circumstances surrounding Liam Payne’s death continue to attract attention. Initially, manslaughter charges were filed against his friend Rogelio “Roger” Nores, hotel operator Gilda Martin, and receptionist Esteban Grassi, but those charges were later dropped. However, hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra and waiter Braian Paiz are still facing charges related to allegedly supplying cocaine to the singer.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Bear Payne’s future is now secured with the inheritance from his father’s estate, allowing for his welfare and upbringing to be prioritized.
