NEW YORK, NY – Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced the appointment of Indian cricket sensation Suryakumar Yadav, affectionately known as SKY, as an ambassador to spearhead the league’s expansion efforts in India.

As part of this partnership, Yadav will collaborate with MLB on various initiatives focused on fan engagement, original content creation, and events designed to introduce baseball to a broader audience across India.

The collaboration will also involve Yadav participating in MLB activities both in India and the United States. Notably, he is set to take part in MLB All-Star Week in Philadelphia from July 10 to 14, where he will engage in fan interaction programs and contribute to original content aimed at connecting Indian audiences with the sport.

“One of the best things about sport is that it brings people together, no matter where they’re from,” Yadav expressed. “I’m excited to partner with Major League Baseball and be part of its journey in India. I look forward to learning more about the game myself and helping more fans discover the energy, excitement, and culture that make baseball something else.”

Yadav is recognized as one of India’s top cricketers, having played a pivotal role in the national team’s victory at the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024. He later captained India to another championship in the 2026 edition of the tournament.

Jeremiah Yolkut, MLB’s senior vice president of global operations and events, commented on the partnership, stating, “India is home to one of the most vibrant sports cultures in the world, and this partnership allows us to connect with fans in a meaningful way. Suryakumar is one of the most recognized athletes in India, with an ability to connect with millions of fans across the country. Together, we’ll introduce more fans to the excitement, energy, and culture of baseball while continuing to expand the game’s reach throughout the country.”

This initiative marks a significant step for MLB as it seeks to tap into the growing interest in baseball within India, leveraging Yadav’s popularity and influence to foster a deeper connection between the sport and Indian fans.

According to India-West, this collaboration is expected to pave the way for innovative fan experiences and a greater appreciation for baseball in a country where cricket remains the dominant sport.
