World Bank Group President Ajay Banga will join a distinguished group of global leaders at the Clinton Global Initiative 2026 Annual Meeting, focusing on pressing global challenges.
NEW YORK, NY – World Bank Group President Ajay Banga is set to participate in the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 2026 Annual Meeting, taking place on September 22–23 in New York City. This event will gather a prominent assembly of global leaders, business executives, philanthropists, and advocates.
The meeting, announced by former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Chelsea Clinton on September 10, will revolve around the theme “How Do We Get It Right?” It aims to address a range of significant global challenges, including artificial intelligence, economic opportunity, health, humanitarian assistance, climate resilience, and the preservation of democracy.
In addition to Banga, the newly announced participants include Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire; Pan American Health Organization Director Jarbas Barbosa; Unitaid Executive Director Philippe Duneton; Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex; LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman; Octopus Energy Group founder and CEO Greg Jackson; Omidyar Network CEO Michele Jawando; IKEA parent Ingka Group CEO and President Juvencio Maeztu; science educator Bill Nye; and Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus, among others.
This year’s discussions will focus on the responsible and equitable implementation of artificial intelligence, the expansion of economic opportunities, climate and energy resilience, the protection of democratic institutions and trusted information, scientific and health innovation, humanitarian responses, and innovative financing approaches for social-impact projects.
The Clinton Global Initiative is renowned for its “Commitments to Action,” which enable participating organizations to launch specific and measurable projects aimed at tackling global issues. Since its inception in 2005, CGI reports that over 13,000 members of its community have contributed to projects that have positively impacted approximately 500 million people across 180 countries.
Other previously announced participants include Ford Foundation President Heather Gerken; Maryland Governor Wes Moore; European Parliament President Roberta Metsola; former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power; Nobel Peace laureate Maria Ressa; Chobani founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya; and International Rescue Committee President and CEO David Miliband, along with leaders from major global nonprofit, philanthropic, and business organizations.
According to CGI, participants at the 2026 meeting will represent foundations, multilateral organizations, and social-enterprise funders with a combined annual grantmaking and investment total of $13.1 billion.
Founded by President Bill Clinton in 2005, the Clinton Global Initiative serves as a platform for leaders from government, business, philanthropy, and civil society to forge partnerships and initiate projects that address pressing social and economic challenges. CGI has facilitated the launch of more than 4,300 Commitments to Action throughout its history.
