Sourav Ganguly, former Indian cricket captain, has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, joining legends like MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid.

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly celebrated his 54th birthday on July 8, 2026, with a significant honor: his induction into the ICC Hall of Fame. This recognition pays tribute to his remarkable contributions to the sport and places him alongside other Indian cricket greats, including MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid.

Ganguly, often referred to as the ‘Prince of Kolkata,’ has had a storied career that has left an indelible mark on Indian cricket. His induction into the Hall of Fame is a testament to his achievements and the legacy he has built over the years.

As an influential figure in Indian cricket, Ganguly’s leadership was pivotal during a transformative period for the team. He took over as captain in the early 2000s, following a match-fixing scandal that had shaken the sport. Under his guidance, the Indian team experienced some of its most memorable victories, including a historic Test series win against Australia in 2001. This remarkable achievement saw India come back from a 274-run deficit to secure an unforgettable victory at Eden Gardens.

Ganguly also led India to the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, marking the team’s first appearance in the final since their triumph in 1983. His captaincy record is impressive, making him the third most successful Indian Test skipper, with 21 victories in 49 matches, including a notable series draw in Australia.

In addition to his leadership, Ganguly was a prolific batsman, amassing over 15,000 international runs throughout his career. He earned the nickname ‘God of the Off-side’ for his exquisite drives through the cover region. His One Day International (ODI) tally of 11,363 runs ranks as the fourth-highest for India, trailing only behind legends Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma.

Beyond his playing career, Ganguly has remained active in cricket administration and coaching. He served as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2022 and was elected unopposed as President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Currently, he is the coach of the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league and is expected to take on a similar role for the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL 2027 season.

Ganguly’s induction into the ICC Hall of Fame further solidifies his status as one of the all-time greats in cricket history. His contributions to the game, both on and off the field, have inspired countless players and fans alike.

As he joins the ranks of other cricketing legends, the cricketing community looks forward to celebrating his achievements and the impact he continues to have on the sport.

According to The Sunday Guardian, Ganguly’s induction is a fitting tribute to a player whose legacy will endure for generations to come.
