The Delhi Assembly is set to host the All India Speakers’ Conference in 2025, commemorating the centenary of Vitthalbhai Patel’s election as the first Indian Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly.
New Delhi: A high-level preparatory meeting was held earlier this week at the Delhi Legislative Assembly, chaired by Hon’ble Speaker Vijender Gupta. The meeting focused on the arrangements for the upcoming All India Speakers’ Conference, scheduled for August 24–25, 2025.
The two-day national conference will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with the valedictory address delivered by Hon’ble Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The event is expected to attract a wide array of dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Chairpersons and Deputy Chairpersons of Legislative Councils and Assemblies, several Hon’ble Union Cabinet Ministers, and other distinguished guests from across the country.
This year’s conference holds special historical significance as it marks the centenary of Shri Vitthalbhai Jhaverbhai Patel’s election on August 24, 1925, as the first Indian President (Speaker) of the Central Legislative Assembly. This milestone is recognized as a pivotal moment in India’s democratic evolution. To honor this occasion, a dedicated exhibition and a specially curated documentary will be unveiled during the conference, showcasing Patel’s remarkable life, leadership, and contributions to the nation.
During the preparatory meeting, Commissioner of Police S.B.K. Singh assured Speaker Vijender Gupta that comprehensive security arrangements and robust protocol management will be implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. He noted that every visiting dignitary will be granted State Guest status and will receive assistance from Delhi Police protocol and security officers throughout their stay. This includes arrangements from their arrival at the airport to their accommodation at the Taj Hotel, as well as all movements to and from the Assembly premises, which will be monitored meticulously.
The inspection also included a joint on-site assessment of the Assembly complex, where senior officials closely reviewed the venue’s preparedness. Special attention was given to the management of entry and exit points, seating and layout design, traffic regulation and diversion plans, and the functioning of emergency protocols to ensure seamless proceedings.
Following the review, Speaker Vijender Gupta expressed confidence that the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat has implemented all essential measures for the successful organization of this landmark national event. He stated that the All India Speakers’ Conference 2025 would “create a memorable legacy and leave a profound imprint on the parliamentary traditions and democratic ethos of India.”
