X has officially ended its Creator Revenue Share Program, introducing a new initiative focused on rewarding original content, with final payouts scheduled for September.
X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has announced significant changes to its monetization strategy for creators. On August 7, the company revealed the termination of its Creator Revenue Share Program, replacing it with the Original Content Rewards Program.
This shift comes as X grapples with an increasing volume of repetitive and low-quality posts, often generated solely for engagement purposes. The new program aims to incentivize creators who contribute original ideas, expertise, and creativity to the platform.
“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program, a new way to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X,” stated X Creators in an announcement regarding the change.
The company emphasized that this new initiative is designed to enhance how creators earn on the platform, placing greater value on those who produce content that keeps users engaged and returning to X.
As part of this transition, X has ceased accepting new applications for the previous revenue-sharing program. However, creators currently enrolled will continue to receive payments until September 7, 2026. These existing members are scheduled to receive three final payouts on August 14, August 28, and September 11.
Starting September 8, creators who are part of the old Revenue Sharing Program will have the opportunity to apply for the Original Content Rewards Program, provided they meet the new eligibility criteria.
To qualify for the new program, creators must adhere to several requirements. Applicants need to have an active Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business subscription, be at least 18 years old, and possess a minimum of 500 verified followers. Additionally, they must have recorded at least 500,000 verified Home Timeline impressions in the previous 90 days, excluding replies.
The earnings structure under the Original Content Rewards Program will be based on impressions generated by eligible original content. Qualified impressions will be defined as unique impressions from Premium users viewing posts on the Home Timeline, with at least 50% of the post visible. Payments will be issued biweekly, with the first payment under the new program scheduled for August 28.
However, for creators transitioning from the old Revenue Sharing Program, the initial payment schedule will differ. Those who enroll in the new program after becoming eligible from September 8 onward will receive their first payment on September 25, 2026.
A notable aspect of the new program is X’s emphasis on content originality. Posts that merely replicate another creator’s work, substantially reproduce existing content, or upload material from other platforms will not qualify for payouts. This change indicates a strategic pivot for X, moving away from a model that primarily rewards engagement to one that prioritizes originality and meaningful contributions to the platform’s discourse.
The introduction of the Original Content Rewards Program marks a significant evolution in how X aims to support and incentivize its creator community. By focusing on original content, the platform hopes to foster a more vibrant and engaging environment for users and creators alike.
