Ambassador of India to the United States, H.E. Mr. Vinay Mohan Kwatra, visited Atlanta from 2–4 August 2026 and met with Governor Brian Kemp, engaged with the Indian diaspora, academia, and the business community to further strengthen the India–U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic partnership.

The visit commenced with a community reception on 2 August 2026, attended by around 200 prominent members of the Indian diaspora. Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Kwatra expressed his appreciation for the Indian community’s outstanding contributions to both their adopted homeland and India, noting that they continue to serve as a vital bridge strengthening the India–U.S. Partnership. He also commended the community for advancing India’s rich cultural heritage while making significant contributions across diverse fields in the United States. The occasion also featured a special felicitation of Padma Bhushan awardee and internationally renowned marketing scholar Dr. Jagdish Sheth, recognizing his extraordinary contributions over more than six decades in academia and his role in advancing intellectual and people-to-people ties between India and the United States.

On 3 August, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta hosted an Education Roundtable bringing together the leadership from nearly 20 leading universities across the southeastern United States, including Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, Vanderbilt University, the University of Florida, and several other premier institutions. In his keynote remarks, Ambassador Kwatra highlighted the vast potential for expanding India–U.S. educational cooperation through joint research, faculty and student exchanges, dual-degree programmes, innovation partnerships, and study abroad initiatives. He underscored the transformative vision of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which places international collaboration at the heart of higher education reforms and has opened new avenues for global academic partnerships. He invited leading U.S. universities to explore opportunities under India’s framework for the setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India, as well as broader collaborations with Indian institutions.

During the visit, Ambassador Kwatra called on Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia. He congratulated Governor Kemp on his successful tenure, during which Georgia witnessed sustained economic growth and strengthened its position as one of the most business-friendly states in the United States. Ambassador appreciated the Governor’s commitment to fostering a globally competitive economy and thanked him for his continued support for the vibrant Indian American community in Georgia.

The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) partnered with the Consulate General of India to host a Business Reception in honour of the Ambassador. The event brought together more than 35 senior executives representing leading companies from across the southeastern United States, including several Fortune 500 corporations headquartered in Atlanta such as The Home Depot, UPS, Delta Air Lines, The Coca-Cola Company, AGCO, Global Payments, Graphic Packaging International, and Intercontinental Exchange, among others. Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Kwatra highlighted India’s remarkable economic transformation, robust growth trajectory, and expanding opportunities in manufacturing, innovation, digital technologies, and advanced industries. He invited U.S. companies to deepen their engagement by leveraging India’s growing market, skilled talent pool, and enabling policy environment. Referring to the presence of major Indian investors in the region, including Novelis and Birla Carbon, he noted the increasing depth of two-way investment flows and emphasized that the southeastern United States, with its industrial strength, world-class logistics infrastructure, innovation ecosystem, and growing connectivity with India, is uniquely positioned to contribute towards the shared India–U.S. objective of achieving USD 500 billion in bilateral trade.

The visit reaffirmed the growing importance of the southeastern United States in the India–U.S. partnership and provided fresh momentum to cooperation in education, trade and investment, innovation, and people-to-people ties.
