Reports claiming that Sebastian Stan confirmed his role as Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II have been debunked, clarifying that he did not make such a statement.

Fans of the superhero genre were recently stirred by rumors suggesting that actor Sebastian Stan had confirmed his casting as Harvey Dent in the highly anticipated sequel, The Batman: Part II, directed by Matt Reeves. The speculation gained traction due to Stan’s established connection to superhero films through his portrayal of Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

However, it turns out that these claims are unfounded. Stan has not officially confirmed any involvement in the role of Harvey Dent.

The initial report originated from Le Journal du Dimanche, which quoted Stan as saying, “I play Harvey Dent,” while discussing his upcoming projects. This statement quickly circulated online, leading many fans to believe that DC and Reeves had finally cast their Harvey Dent.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Stan had been misquoted. Insiders informed the publication that the original quote was inaccurate, prompting Le Journal du Dimanche to update the online version of the interview. The revised text clarified that Stan did not confirm his participation in the film or disclose any character details.

In the updated interview, Stan was asked about his work with directors Anthony and Joe Russo on the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and he addressed questions regarding The Batman: Part II. He stated, “Honestly, I have absolutely no idea. Because we didn’t have a script. We were just shooting scattered scenes. It’s a different way of working, continuous, constantly evolving. The producers didn’t want us to read it in its entirety, to avoid journalists asking us questions. (Laughs.) I’ve been following that rule for fifteen years now, I’m used to it. I also can’t say anything about ‘Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II.’ The beauty of this profession also lies in participating in projects of this scale, which I love as a viewer. Right now, I’m really keen to see Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’; it looks incredible.”

Notably, there was no confirmation of Stan’s involvement as Harvey Dent in this corrected version of the interview.

The rumors surrounding Stan’s potential role appear to have stemmed from the misreported quote in the original French interview. Once the line “I play Harvey Dent” began circulating, fans naturally linked it to ongoing speculation about who might portray the character in The Batman: Part II. However, the revised interview made it clear that Stan specifically stated he could not comment on the film.

While Stan’s involvement remains uncertain, the release date for The Batman: Part II has been confirmed. Last month, Reeves announced the film’s new release date, sharing the first camera test footage of Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Batman on social media.

The sequel is set to hit theaters on February 28, 2028.

As for Sebastian Stan’s future projects, he continues to be a prominent figure in the Marvel franchise. He first appeared as Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011 and has reprised the role in multiple Marvel films and series. Most recently, he appeared as Bucky in Thunderbolts and is scheduled to return in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, which is set for release on December 18.

In summary, while the speculation surrounding Stan’s casting as Harvey Dent has been debunked, fans can look forward to both The Batman: Part II and Stan’s upcoming Marvel projects.

According to Le Journal du Dimanche.
