Police in Maryland are seeking the arrest of Arjun Sharma, the ex-boyfriend of Nikitha Godishala, who was found dead in his apartment shortly after being reported missing.
Authorities in Maryland are collaborating with federal law enforcement to locate Arjun Sharma, the ex-boyfriend of Nikitha Godishala, an Indian woman who was reported missing on January 2 and subsequently found dead in Columbia, Maryland.
Sharma, 26, is identified as Godishala’s former partner. He reportedly fled to India on the same day he reported her missing. Godishala, 27, who resided in Ellicott City, was discovered deceased with stab wounds inside Sharma’s apartment.
Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant for Sharma, charging him with first- and second-degree murder. According to police, Godishala was likely killed shortly after 7 p.m. on December 31.
Howard County Police officials stated that Sharma reported Godishala missing, claiming he last saw her on December 31 in his apartment located in the 10100 block of Twin Rivers Road.
On January 3, detectives executed a search warrant at Sharma’s apartment, where they found Godishala’s body. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities suspect Sharma’s involvement in her death.
As of now, police have not disclosed a potential motive or detailed the nature of the interactions between Godishala and Sharma leading up to her death.
The Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., has reached out to Godishala’s family and is providing consular assistance. In a statement posted on X, the Embassy confirmed, “The Embassy is in contact with the family of Ms. Nikitha Godishala and is extending all possible consular assistance. The Embassy is also following up the matter with the local authorities.”
This tragic case has drawn attention to issues of domestic violence and the safety of individuals in intimate relationships. As investigations continue, the community remains in shock over the events surrounding Godishala’s death.
