Filmmaker Gurinder Chadha celebrated the launch of her new project in Mumbai, coinciding with the upcoming release of her latest film, ‘Christmas Karma.’
MUMBAI – Ahead of the release of her latest drama, ‘Christmas Karma,’ renowned filmmaker Gurinder Chadha arrived in Mumbai to unveil her next project.
Upon her arrival in the bustling city, Gurinder joined a celebration for designer-turned-producer Manish Malhotra’s new venture, ‘Gustaakh Ishq.’ The event was attended by notable figures from the film industry, including veteran actress Rekha, Kajol, Shabana Azmi, and Karan Johar.
In a heartfelt statement, Gurinder shared her personal connection to the holiday season. “For me, Christmas begins with my annual family tradition, where I take my children to watch ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ at the Prince Charles Cinema in London. Every year, I cry buckets at the end while being moved by its life-affirming message. That love for classic holiday storytelling inspired ‘Christmas Karma,’” she said.
She described her film as “My ode to Dickens and Capra with a contemporary twist.”
Gurinder elaborated on the themes of ‘Christmas Karma,’ explaining that it delves into the true meaning of Christmas in today’s divided world. The film emphasizes how kindness, empathy, and hope can continue to connect people.
Additionally, Gurinder highlighted the infusion of Sikh philosophy in her work. “’Living is Giving’ is part of the teachings of Guru Nanak and Sikhism. Being a Sikh, the core message of ‘Ek On Khar’ (We are all one) resonates heavily for me in the making of my film,” she noted.
With ‘Christmas Karma,’ Gurinder Chadha aims to offer audiences a fresh perspective on the holiday spirit, blending traditional narratives with contemporary issues.
