Vijay Kumar, 51, has been arrested and charged with the murder of four adults in a domestic dispute that escalated to violence in Lawrenceville, Georgia, on January 23.
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Gwinnett County Police have arrested Vijay Kumar, a 51-year-old resident of Atlanta, in connection with the fatal shooting of four adults at a Lawrenceville home early on January 23. Authorities have indicated that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Kumar has been charged with the murders of his wife, Meemu Dogra, 43, and three of her relatives. According to police, the situation escalated following an argument between Kumar and Dogra at their Atlanta residence, leading to the tragic events at a home located in the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court.
Following the dispute, investigators determined that Kumar and Dogra drove to the Lawrenceville residence with their 12-year-old child. The home was occupied by Dogra’s relatives, including Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. At the time of the shooting, two children, aged seven and ten, were also present in the home.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 2:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered all four adults deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Fortunately, the three children were found unharmed. Authorities reported that the two younger children had hidden in a closet during the attack, while the 12-year-old managed to place a 911 call that alerted law enforcement.
Kumar was apprehended without incident a short distance from the scene shortly after the shooting. Police have confirmed that there are no other suspects involved and are treating the incident as a domestic-related case. However, specific details regarding the nature of the argument are still under investigation.
He faces multiple charges, including four counts each of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. Additionally, Kumar has been charged with one count of first-degree cruelty to children and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children.
