The Artesia City Council has approved significant updates to the city’s paid parking and residential permit programs, enhancing convenience and enforcement for residents starting in September.
ARTESIA, CA – The Artesia City Council has enacted changes to the city’s paid parking and residential parking permit programs, introducing uniform parking rates, digital management of permits, and revised residential parking regulations.
Effective September, all paid parking areas will implement a flat rate of $2 per hour. This change replaces the previous “first hour free” policy that was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new system will allow drivers to pay via mobile applications linked to their vehicle license plate numbers, eliminating the need for printed receipts and streamlining enforcement efforts.
The updated Preferential Parking Permit Program will enable households to obtain up to three residential parking permits. Starting in January 2027, each permit will cost $10 per calendar year. Residents will have the option to apply online, and the city will transition to a license plate-based system, moving away from printed permits. Additionally, the city plans to offer 24-hour guest parking passes for $4 each.
The ordinance also integrates the Alburtis Street Preferential Parking District into the Artesia Municipal Code. It establishes a procedure for creating new parking districts through resident petitions or proposals initiated by the City Manager, which will be subject to review by the Public Safety Commission and the City Council.
Mayor Rene Trevino emphasized the city’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience for Artesia residents. “The City Council continuously seeks ways to make the customer experience easier for Artesia residents,” he stated. “These updates are designed to improve the City’s service delivery, support more efficient parking enforcement, and ensure the City’s parking programs continue to meet the needs of the Artesia community as technology and parking demands evolve.”
The revised parking regulations will take effect in September, with enforcement commencing at that time. Residential permits issued for 2026 will remain valid through December 31, 2026, ensuring a smooth transition for residents.
