Actor Anil Kapoor reminisces about his first paycheck of Rs 250 from Doordarshan in 1976 during an appearance on the gaming reality show ‘Wheel of Fortune.’

MUMBAI – Renowned actor Anil Kapoor recently shared nostalgic memories of his first paycheck while appearing on the gaming reality show ‘Wheel of Fortune.’ The actor revealed that he earned Rs 250 for his work at Doordarshan in 1976, performing at the Worli studio. Kapoor described this moment as the beginning of his recognition in the television industry and a significant milestone for both him and his family.

Reflecting on his early days, Kapoor recounted his experiences in theater while studying at St. Xavier’s College. He recalled a pivotal moment when the legendary actor Shashi Kapoor was the chief guest at one of his performances. During this event, Kapoor received a Best Actor trophy from Shashi Kapoor, which served as a major source of motivation for him to pursue a career in acting. He expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am trying very hard to get that clip, but I can’t find it so that I can also see how I did that.”

Kapoor continued, “Then after that, I did theater when I was at St. Xavier’s College. And the first time I did theater, Shashi Kapoor was the Chief Guest. For that play, I received the Best Actor trophy from his hands, and from there I got the motivation that I could become an actor. And from there, I started an acting course, and Shashi Kapoor sir played a significant role in my career.”

During his appearance on ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ Kapoor also discussed his iconic song ‘Dhak Dhak Karne Laga,’ which prominently featured actress Madhuri Dixit. He humbly noted that while he was part of the performance, the song primarily showcased Madhuri. “This song is solely Madhuri ji’s. I was just playing a supporting role on the side,” he remarked.

Kapoor further elaborated on the production of the song, sharing insights into its choreography and filming schedule. He mentioned that the talented choreographer Saroj Khan was responsible for the song’s choreography. “Raj Kapoor had shot in the studio and the film was complete. We shot this on the last day. We shot this song at night because Madhuri and I were already doing two shifts during the day,” he explained. “So the freshness you see in this song of ours is because we used to shoot two films and then the third shoot was for this song at night.”

Through his reflections, Anil Kapoor not only highlighted his humble beginnings but also paid tribute to the influential figures who shaped his career. His journey from earning his first paycheck to becoming a celebrated actor serves as an inspiration to many aspiring artists in the industry.

According to India West, Kapoor’s stories resonate with those who appreciate the dedication and hard work that goes into building a successful career in the entertainment world.
