Kolkata Metro Blue Line services will be suspended between Shahid Khudiram and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stations on Sunday from 9 AM to 6:30 PM due to essential maintenance work.
Kolkata Metro services are set to face disruptions this Sunday as maintenance work will temporarily halt operations on a significant stretch of the Blue Line. Commuters planning to travel towards the southern parts of the city should prepare for alternative travel arrangements due to the suspension of services between Shahid Khudiram and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar.
The service suspension will be in effect from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM on September 13, as Metro Railway conducts necessary maintenance activities linked to a traffic and power block. This disruption will particularly impact passengers traveling to areas surrounding Gitanjali, Kavi Nazrul, and Shahid Khudiram.
Despite the suspension on the southern stretch, services on the northern portion of the Blue Line will continue as usual. Trains will operate normally between Dakshineswar and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, allowing passengers to travel without interruption on that segment during the maintenance window.
The scheduled maintenance work is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of the Blue Line. A traffic and power block will be implemented between Gitanjali and Kavi Nazrul stations, enabling maintenance activities to proceed without the interference of regular passenger services.
Metro Railway has indicated that the maintenance work will necessitate the temporary suspension of services across a broader section than just the immediate maintenance area. As a result, no Metro services will operate between Shahid Khudiram and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar from 9 AM to 6:30 PM.

The Blue Line is a vital corridor connecting Dakshineswar with Shahid Khudiram, and the timing of the maintenance work could pose challenges for shoppers preparing for the upcoming Puja festival. Fortunately, no major disruptions have been reported on other Metro lines due to this maintenance block. Services on the Green, Purple, and Orange lines are expected to continue as scheduled, with the disruption specifically affecting the southern section of the Blue Line due to the maintenance work between Gitanjali and Kavi Nazrul.
In a notice, Metro Railway stated, “Due to de-stressing of rails, there will be no revenue service between KSKD & KMUK stations from 09:00 hrs. to 18:00 hrs. on 13.09.2026 (Sunday). Revenue service between KMUK and KSKD may be available after 18:30 hrs. (tentative) on 13.09.2026.”
The maintenance-related block is temporary, and Metro Railway expects normal operations to resume across the entire Blue Line later on Sunday, ensuring that commuters can return to their regular travel routines.
