Facebook is facing a significant global outage, with users reporting login failures, frozen feeds, and messaging issues across its platforms.

Facebook is currently experiencing a widespread outage affecting users around the world. Thousands have reported issues such as login failures, frozen feeds, and messaging problems across both desktop and mobile platforms.

Many desktop users are encountering an error message stating, “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue.” This has left a substantial number of users unable to access their accounts.

The outage has prompted a surge in complaints, with various issues being reported. The largest portion of these complaints—ranging from 32% to 63%—comes from users who are completely blocked by the “Account Temporarily Unavailable” screen. Additionally, 26% of users are experiencing login and authentication failures, where attempts to access accounts result in being kicked back out or encountering server loop bugs. Furthermore, 22% of users who remain logged in report that their notification bars, news feeds, and profiles are entirely unresponsive.

Reports of these issues began to surge around 10:39 a.m. ET (8:09 p.m. IST), with tens of thousands of users documenting similar system failures across social media platforms. The primary errors reported include total desktop lockouts, media upload failures, and frozen notification feeds.

Several potential technical causes have been identified for the outage. These include centralized authentication and token failures, routine maintenance misconfigurations, server configuration issues, API overload, and glitches in the edge network or content delivery network (CDN).

Users have expressed deep frustration over the situation, describing a sense of digital isolation as their main channels for personal communication and business management have suddenly become inaccessible.

In response to the outage, Meta has acknowledged the widespread service disruption. The company confirmed via its developer status dashboard that its engineering teams are actively investigating the issue. Their core platform status tracking indicates critical disruptions, particularly affecting backend authentication systems and login integrations.

As of now, there are signs of recovery from the massive global outage. Services are being selectively restored for some users after approximately an hour and a half of total downtime. While desktop access is gradually being restored, thousands of unresolved reports remain active on Downdetector for Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

According to Downdetector, the active tracking telemetry shows a significant spike in user complaints today, confirming a widespread global outage affecting Meta platforms. Reports began to escalate rapidly starting around 10:39 a.m. ET, jumping from a normal baseline of just a few reports to thousands of active complaints within minutes.

The situation continues to develop, and users are advised to stay updated through official channels as Meta works to resolve the issues.
