Ukrainian Drone Strikes Kill Seven at Moscow Region Oil Depot

Ukrainian drone strikes near Moscow resulted in the deaths of seven warehouse workers and injuries to dozens more, intensifying the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Ukrainian drone strikes on Saturday led to the deaths of seven warehouse workers and injured at least 49 others, according to Russian officials. The attacks also ignited a fire at an oil depot in the Moscow region, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.

Tambov Governor Evgeniy Pervyshov reported that drones targeted a Wildberries warehouse located in Kotovsk, approximately 475 kilometers southeast of Moscow. Pervyshov stated that seven employees working the night shift were killed on-site, while 25 others sustained injuries. He further noted that Russian air defense systems intercepted 28 drones before they could reach their intended targets. “Seven people working the night shift died on the spot,” Pervyshov wrote on Telegram, suggesting that the casualty count could have been much higher had more drones successfully reached the warehouse.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the strikes were aimed at logistics facilities and an oil site that supports Russia’s military operations. In a post on X, he stated that Ukrainian forces targeted two logistics facilities used by Russia for drone production and navigation equipment. However, he did not specify the locations of the warehouses mentioned by Russian authorities.

In addition to the Kotovsk strike, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported another drone attack on a Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, located east of Moscow. This attack resulted in injuries to 24 individuals. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, and officials began assessing the damage caused by the strike.

Vorobyov also indicated that debris from the drones caused a fire at an oil depot in Noginsk, another town within the Moscow region. Two people were reported injured, and as a precautionary measure, a nearby maternity hospital was evacuated. Authorities have yet to disclose the extent of the damage to the oil storage facility.

In response to the attacks, Wildberries co-founder and CEO Tatyana Kim expressed her sorrow, describing the incident as a “terrible night” for both Russia and the company. She extended her condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the warehouse strike.

The recent wave of drone strikes underscores the escalating nature of the Russia-Ukraine war, with both sides increasingly targeting logistics hubs, energy infrastructure, and military-related facilities. While Russia reported civilian casualties and infrastructure damage, Ukraine maintained that its strikes aimed to disrupt Russia’s military capabilities. Many claims made by both sides remain unverified.

As the conflict continues, the impact of these drone strikes highlights the ongoing volatility in the region and the potential for further escalation in military actions.

According to The Sunday Guardian, the situation remains fluid as both nations navigate the complexities of their ongoing war.
