Dubai International Airport has lifted airspace restrictions, normalizing operations to accommodate rising travel demand amid ongoing regional tensions.
Good news for travelers planning to visit the United Arab Emirates or those currently in the country: Dubai International Airport (DXB) has lifted most restrictions as part of efforts to normalize operations and meet increasing travel demand.
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the UAE has announced the removal of all temporary precautionary measures within the country’s airspace. This decision is aimed at facilitating smoother travel for passengers and airlines alike.
So, is Dubai International Airport open? Yes, DXB has begun to lift airspace restrictions. In a recent statement, the airport confirmed that it is “moving decisively to scale up operations, increasing flight movements in line with available regional routing capacity.” The GCAA has also indicated that air traffic is returning to normal levels.
The operations at Dubai Airport were previously restricted due to a partial closure of the UAE airspace on February 28. This precaution was implemented to safeguard flights, aircrew, and the national airspace amid escalating tensions related to the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict.
Following the lifting of these precautionary measures on May 2, DXB is now entering a new phase of recovery operations. The airport plans to increase daily flight movements progressively and restore schedules in alignment with the availability of regional routes outside the UAE. The statement emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination to optimize air traffic flows across neighboring airspace.
In addition to operational updates, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has introduced new consumer air travel rights to protect travelers at both Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport. This framework establishes passenger rights concerning delays, cancellations, and flight disruptions.
The guidelines also provide instructions for passengers dealing with baggage loss or denied boarding due to overbooking. These regulations apply to Dubai-based airlines, including Emirates and flydubai, as well as their subsidiaries, codeshare partners, and foreign airlines operating commercial flights from airports within the emirate.
As for the latest advisory from Dubai Airport, the UAE’s top priority remains the well-being of its citizens, residents, and visitors. Currently, airline services are operating on a reduced schedule, and travelers are encouraged to check directly with their airlines and official UAE government channels for the most up-to-date information.

Regarding passenger rights at DXB and Dubai World Central (DWC), airlines are required to first seek volunteers to give up their confirmed reservations in exchange for benefits if they need to deny boarding. If no volunteers come forward, airlines may deny boarding involuntarily. In such cases, passengers will be offered a choice between a refund (returning to the original departure point) or rerouting to their final destination. They are also entitled to care and assistance, which includes meals and accommodation.
If a traveler has a complaint against an airline or travel agent, it must be submitted within 60 calendar days of the incident. Complaints should be made in writing and include all relevant supporting documents. Airlines and travel agencies are obligated to acknowledge complaints within five days and respond within 60 days. This response period may be extended by 15 days if the customer is informed in advance.
For travelers who are not satisfied with the outcome of their complaints, there is an option to appeal online to the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority.
