In a tragic case from New Jersey, an Indian mother has been charged with the murder of her two children, aged 5 and 7. Priyatharsini Natarajan, 35, a resident of Hillsborough in Somerset County, faces two counts of first-degree murder.
The situation unfolded on a Tuesday evening when a 911 call was made by a man who reported that his children were not breathing. The call was placed around 6:45 p.m., prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement.
Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald stated that the caller indicated he found his two children unconscious upon returning home from work and suggested that his wife had harmed them.
Upon arrival, officers found both the caller and Natarajan at the residence. Inside a bedroom, they discovered the two boys and attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, their efforts were in vain. The children were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the children appeared to have been strangled and had likely been deceased for several hours prior to the police’s arrival. The names of the children have not been disclosed, and the official cause and manner of death are still pending as the autopsy report is awaited.
Natarajan has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of third-degree possession of a weapon, as indicated by court records. Following her arrest, she was taken to the Somerset County Jail, where she awaits a pretrial detention hearing.
