Congress emphasizes the need for collaboration among alliance partners in Bihar, asserting that the electorate will decide on the new Chief Minister in the upcoming elections.
New Delhi: Congress officials stated on Wednesday that all alliance partners in Bihar must accommodate new members within the coalition. They refrained from endorsing Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate, asserting that the people of Bihar will choose a new leader in the upcoming elections.
This announcement followed a meeting between the Screening Committee members and senior Bihar Congress leaders. It marked the first gathering of the Screening Committee with the Bihar Congress leadership.
The meeting, held at Indira Bhawan, included key figures such as committee Chairperson Ajay Maken, Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, state unit chief Rajesh Kumar, and CLP leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan.
Sources within the party indicated that around 55 seats were discussed during the meeting. They also revealed that the Congress is actively seeking strong candidates for the forthcoming elections.
During a press conference, Allavaru addressed the seat-sharing formula and the number of seats Congress intends to contest. He stated, “In this election, all alliance partners will have to accommodate new partners in the upcoming polls from their own quota of seats.”
Allavaru emphasized that the presence of several new partners in the Mahagatbandhan necessitates cooperation among all parties. He stressed the importance of dividing seats in a manner that includes both strong and weaker constituencies in each partner’s quota to ensure a robust campaign.
The Congress party has also instructed its block-level organizations to submit names of potential candidates to the state leadership by September 14. A meeting of the state election committee is scheduled for September 16.
Allavaru further noted that the first formal meeting of the Screening Committee will occur on September 19. When questioned about Tejashwi Yadav’s candidacy for Chief Minister, he reiterated that the electorate will ultimately decide on their new leader.
Additionally, party leaders confirmed that a joint manifesto for Bihar will soon be released. A member of the party indicated that the Manifesto Committee was established three months ago and that the joint manifesto is nearing completion. Following its finalization, a collaborative campaign will be launched across all 243 assembly seats in the state.
In the previous assembly elections held in 2020, the Congress contested 70 out of 243 seats and secured 19 victories.
