Baramulla Police have arrested three individuals for conspiring to plant a fake IED in Tangmarg, intending to frame an innocent man over a personal grudge.

Srinagar: In a significant development, Baramulla Police announced the arrest of three individuals on Sunday for allegedly conspiring to plant a fake Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the residence of an innocent man in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The motive behind this act was to falsely implicate the victim due to a personal grudge.

According to a police statement, the incident unfolded on July 31 when Tangmarg Police received credible information regarding the presence of an IED at the home of Manzoor Ahmed Khan, son of Mohammad Ayoub Khan, a resident of Mahayan Ferozpora. Acting promptly on the tip-off, Tangmarg Police, in collaboration with security agencies, initiated a cordon and search operation.

During the operation, authorities discovered a suspicious package located near the main gate of Khan’s residence. The bomb disposal squad was summoned to assess the situation. Upon inspection, the package was found to contain a plastic box designed to resemble an IED. It was confirmed to be non-explosive and posed no threat to the public.

Following the discovery, police registered FIR No. 56/2025 under relevant sections of law at the Police Station Tangmarg and commenced an investigation into the matter.

As the investigation progressed, Sajad Ahmed Ganie, son of Mohammad Qasim Ganie and a resident of Nowgam Sumbal, emerged as the primary suspect. Initially evading capture, Ganie was later apprehended. During interrogation, he confessed to planting the fake device at the behest of Advocate Rahila Qadri, who is the estranged ex-wife of Manzoor Ahmed Khan and the current wife of Advocate Rayees Ahmed Bhat from Pandithpora, Tangmarg.

Further inquiries revealed that Rahila Qadri and Rayees Ahmed Bhat had conspired to frame Khan due to a longstanding personal dispute. Investigators confirmed that the fake IED was intentionally planted to mislead law enforcement and falsely implicate the homeowner. Sajad Ganie also provided misleading information to authorities following the act.

Legal notices have been issued to all three accused, and the case is set to proceed to court for further legal action. Baramulla Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and preventing the misuse of legal provisions for personal vendettas.
