Indian Air Force jets were spotted flying over the Line of Control in north Kashmir during a high-intensity exercise aimed at enhancing combat readiness following recent conflicts with Pakistan.
Srinagar: Indian Air Force (IAF) jets were observed flying over areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir around 5 AM on Wednesday, generating considerable interest among residents of border villages.
This aerial activity is part of a high-intensity air exercise for which the IAF had issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). The exercise is scheduled to take place from August 19 to 21 across Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, close to the Pakistan border.
The primary objective of this exercise is to enhance combat readiness and test operational preparedness in strategically sensitive zones.
These military drills occur against the backdrop of the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict, which was a brief but intense confrontation that began on May 7, 2025. This conflict was initiated when India launched missile strikes under the banner of Operation Sindoor.
The missile strikes were a direct response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the loss of 26 civilian lives. In retaliation, India targeted terror infrastructure operated by Pakistan-based groups, including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, in both Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
India has asserted that no Pakistani military or civilian facilities were impacted during these strikes.
The conflict lasted four days, concluding on May 10, 2025, and was characterized by heavy cross-LoC engagements and mutual allegations of ceasefire violations, even after a ceasefire agreement was reached.
The recent air exercises underscore India’s ongoing vigilance and preparedness against any emerging threats in the region.
Residents in border areas have been advised to remain alert and comply with advisories issued by local authorities during the exercise period.
