Virat Kohli has made history by becoming the second-highest run-scorer in One Day Internationals (ODIs), surpassing Kumar Sangakkara’s record during a match against Australia.

SYDNEY – Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli achieved a significant milestone on October 25, becoming the second-highest run-getter in One Day Internationals (ODIs). This accomplishment came after a period of subdued performance in the first two ODIs against Australia, where he struggled to find his rhythm.

Known for his exceptional chasing ability, Kohli showcased his skills by scoring his 75th ODI fifty. In doing so, he also crossed the 2,500-run mark against Australia in ODIs, further solidifying his reputation as one of the game’s greats.

During his innings, Kohli surpassed the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara, who previously held the record with 14,234 runs scored in 404 ODIs. Kohli achieved this feat in his 293rd ODI innings, marking a remarkable achievement in his illustrious career.

Now, Kohli stands just behind the iconic Sachin Tendulkar, who holds the top position with a staggering total of 18,426 runs. Notably, Kohli boasts a superior batting average compared to Tendulkar and any other player in the top ten run-scorers. As of now, Kohli’s average is an impressive 57.69 across 305 ODIs, while Tendulkar’s average was 44.83 over his 463-match ODI career.

As Kohli approaches the latter stages of his career, he is primarily focusing on the 50-over format. It is anticipated that he will conclude his ODI journey as the second-highest run-scorer, trailing only behind his idol, Tendulkar.

According to IANS, Kohli’s remarkable consistency and ability to perform under pressure have been key factors in his success, and fans eagerly await his future performances on the international stage.
