Former Indian cricketers Sandeep Patil and Madan Lal have withdrawn from the Asian Legends League, citing significant concerns regarding governance and professionalism within the organization.
NEW DELHI – Former Indian cricketers Sandeep Patil and Madan Lal have officially announced their withdrawal from the Asian Legends League, expressing serious concerns over the league’s governance, credibility, and professionalism. Both players emphasized that their personal values and respect for the sport remain their top priorities.
In a video message, Patil stated, “After careful thought and consideration, I have formally withdrawn and disassociated myself from the Asian Legends League. This decision has been taken due to serious concerns regarding governance, credibility, and overall professionalism.”
He further elaborated, “Throughout my career, integrity and respect for the game have been non-negotiable, and I always stand by those values. It was also sad to know that the constant changing of dates has not gone well with me.”
Madan Lal echoed similar sentiments, voicing his concerns about the league’s management and professionalism. He confirmed his immediate departure from the league and requested that the organizers cease any use of his name or association with the league across all platforms.
Lal remarked, “I have decided to immediately disassociate myself from the Asian Legends League and will no longer be associated with the league in any capacity.”
He added, “This decision has been necessitated due to serious concerns regarding governance practices, organizational credibility, and overall professionalism, which do not align with the standards, values, and sporting discipline I have represented over decades in Indian cricket.”
The recent withdrawals come on the heels of league commissioner Aakash Chopra also stepping down, stating that he has no connection to the league’s second season in any capacity. The departures of these prominent figures raise questions about the future of the Asian Legends League and its ability to maintain credibility within the cricketing community.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the league will address these governance issues and whether it can regain the trust of former players and fans alike. The integrity of the game and the professionalism of its leagues are essential for fostering a positive environment for both players and supporters.
According to India West, the concerns raised by Patil and Lal highlight the importance of maintaining high standards within sports organizations, particularly those that aim to celebrate and promote the legacy of cricket.
