Authorities in Nigeria have uncovered a suspected organ-harvesting ring, leading to the discovery of over 100 mutilated bodies and the search for a key suspect.

Nigerian police are on the hunt for High Chief Stanley Oparaugo, who is wanted in connection with a disturbing organ-harvesting operation that has come to light following extensive surveillance. The investigation revealed the existence of a network involved in the abduction and exploitation of victims.

According to a statement from the Imo State Police Command shared on social media platform X, the investigation was initiated after reports surfaced regarding a series of kidnappings occurring near a hotel and mortuary in Ngor Okpala. The police’s intelligence-led efforts identified Oparaugo, also known by the alias “Morocco,” as the suspected leader of this criminal enterprise. He is currently on the run.

Oparaugo is believed to own the Jessy Best Hotel in Ihitte Okwe and the nearby Ugwudi mortuary. Authorities allege that victims were lured to the hotel, where they were subsequently robbed and abducted. Families of the victims were reportedly coerced into paying ransoms, with some never seeing their loved ones again.

Following a raid on the Jessy Best Hotel, which was found abandoned, police discovered decomposed and mutilated bodies at the mortuary. Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed that more than 100 bodies had been recovered from the site.

“A hotel and a private mortuary owned by the suspect, allegedly used by kidnappers and violent criminals, were inspected,” Okoye stated. He described the conditions at the mortuary as unhygienic, raising serious concerns about illegal organ-harvesting activities.

In addition to the hotel and mortuary, Oparaugo’s residence was also searched, where investigators recovered “crucial exhibits.” Forensic teams are currently documenting evidence as part of the ongoing investigation into this alarming case.

In response to the rising crime rates, particularly kidnappings and abductions, maximum security measures have been implemented along the Owerri–Aba Expressway. The police command has assured travelers of their commitment to safety during the holiday season.

The issue of crime in Nigeria has been escalating, with numerous reports of kidnappings. Recently, the Nigerian government successfully secured the release of 100 schoolchildren who had been abducted from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Niger state, on November 21. This incident highlights the broader context of violence and persecution faced by Christians in the region, prompting international attention and concern.

As investigations continue, the situation remains critical, and authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. The uncovering of this organ-harvesting ring raises significant ethical and legal questions regarding the safety and security of individuals in Nigeria.

According to Fox News Digital, the implications of this case extend beyond local crime, reflecting a troubling trend of violence and exploitation in the region.
