Srinagar: On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid tribute to two Army personnel who lost their lives during an ongoing anti-terror operation in Kulgam. The wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar, conducted with full military honors.

Expressing profound sorrow, Abdullah emphasized the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of the soldiers, stating that their actions in the face of adversity would be remembered with utmost respect and pride. “Their courage and service to the nation will never be forgotten. They laid down their lives protecting the sovereignty and integrity of our country,” he remarked.

In addition to honoring the fallen soldiers, Abdullah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the families of the martyrs. He assured that their sacrifices would be recognized not only in words but also through tangible assistance.

The two soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) from the elite 10 PARA unit, sustained critical injuries during a fierce gun battle in the Guddar forest area of Kulgam district. Despite prompt evacuation efforts, they ultimately succumbed to their injuries.

The operation was initiated following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the forested region. As of now, one terrorist has been neutralized, and security forces are continuing their combing operations to ensure that no additional militants remain in the area. Heavy reinforcements, including drone surveillance and sniffer dogs, have been deployed to aid in the ongoing mission.

This incident marks the second significant encounter in the same forest belt this year, highlighting the persistent security challenges faced in the region. Tributes have been pouring in from across the country, honoring the sacrifices made by the soldiers in the line of duty.
