Air India has announced the partial resumption of its international flight schedule previously halted following a plane crash in Ahmedabad earlier this year.
Air India will partially restore its international flight schedule, which was put on hold after an incident involving flight AI171 on June 12, the airline announced on Tuesday. The suspension allowed the airline to conduct additional precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft and manage longer flight times due to airspace restrictions over Pakistan and the Middle East.
The airline stated that it would resume its thrice-weekly service between Ahmedabad and London Heathrow from August 1 to September 30. This service will momentarily replace the five-times-a-week flights currently operating between Ahmedabad and London Gatwick.
In a detailed update regarding its international flights, Air India announced several changes, particularly concerning routes to Europe. Flights from Delhi to London (Heathrow) will see the return of two weekly flights previously halted, with all 24 weekly flights operational from July 16. The Delhi-Zurich route will be increased from four to five flights weekly starting August 1.
The Bengaluru-London (Heathrow) line will continue at a reduced frequency of six weekly flights, which will further decrease to four weekly flights effective August 1, 2025. The Amritsar-Birmingham route, which remains reduced to two weekly flights until August 31, is set to increase to three weekly flights starting September 1. Meanwhile, Delhi-Birmingham will continue with two flights a week.
Several other European routes will face reductions. The Delhi-Paris route will be trimmed from 12 to 7 weekly flights starting August 1. Flights from Delhi to Milan will decrease from four to three times weekly, effective July 16, while the Delhi-Copenhagen and Delhi-Vienna routes will remain at three weekly flights.
The Delhi-Amsterdam route, currently operating five times a week, will be renewed to seven weekly flights starting August 1. Similar reinstatements will occur for flights to the Far East, with the Delhi-Tokyo (Haneda) route fully restoring its seven weekly flights from August 1, while Delhi-Seoul (Incheon) flights will return to five weekly from September 1.
Changes will also remain in effect for North American routes. Flights from Delhi to Washington (Dulles) will continue three times a week, with Delhi-Chicago temporarily reduced to three weekly flights, increasing to four in August. The Delhi-San Francisco route will maintain a frequency of seven flights a week, while Delhi-Toronto and Delhi-Vancouver will continue at seven and four weekly flights, respectively.
Some flights to New York will see slight adjustments, with Delhi’s flights to JFK shifting from seven to six times weekly on July 16, and a similar reduction in Mumbai’s flights to JFK, effective August 1. Additionally, Delhi’s flights to Newark Liberty will decrease to four weekly flights starting July 16.
In other regions, the Delhi-Melbourne and Delhi-Sydney routes will continue with five weekly flights each. In Africa, services on the Delhi-Nairobi route will operate three times a week until August 31 before being suspended in September.
Additional routes include the Amritsar-London (Gatwick) and Goa (Mopa)-London (Gatwick) routes, both operating three times weekly, and high-frequency flights between Bengaluru-Singapore and Pune-Singapore, with seven and five weekly flights, respectively, on those routes.
These changes follow a strategic reassessment of Air India’s flight operations to ensure fleet efficiency and accommodate airspace changes, according to the original report from World Malayalee Voice.
