The Bay Area Telugu Association (BATA) recently hosted the 18th Annual BATA Cricket Cup Tournament, co-sponsored by the San Ramon Cricket Association (SRCA). The event took place at Gale Ranch Middle School in San Ramon on November 2, showcasing both men’s and women’s tournaments that highlighted talent, teamwork, and a shared passion for cricket.

Among the attendees were Dublin Vice Mayor Kashef Qaadri and San Ramon Vice Mayor Sridhar Verose, who encouraged participants to embrace the values of participation, sportsmanship, and community spirit. Their presence underscored the importance of such events in fostering community ties and promoting healthy competition.

The tournament concluded with an awards ceremony where prizes and trophies were presented to the winning teams. In keeping with BATA’s commitment to community service, all proceeds from the event were generously donated to the Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF), which aims to eradicate curable blindness.

The women’s tournament saw the Phoenix team emerge victorious, with Boundary Crossers finishing as the runners-up. Spoorthy Nimmala was honored as the Player of the Match for the finals, while Akhila Chippada received the accolade for Player of the Series.

In the men’s championship, the Vinstar team claimed the title, with OG taking second place. Kumar Kannan was recognized as both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series for his outstanding performance.

Community support played a significant role in the success of the tournament, with various sponsors contributing to the event. Grand Sponsor Sanjiv Gupta (CPA), realtor Nagaraj Anniah, Gold Sponsor Srini Goli Real Estates, and Silver Sponsors including PNG Jewelers, Insta Service, and realtor Shika Kapoor all lent their support. Additionally, local restaurants such as TajMahal in Livermore and Antera in Pleasanton provided gift cards for the winners, further enhancing the community spirit surrounding the event.

For over five decades, the Bay Area Telugu Association has been dedicated to promoting Telugu culture, sports, education, and community service through a variety of events and charitable initiatives. The success of this year’s cricket tournament is a testament to their ongoing commitment to these values.
